Random dunmeshi thought for today: thinking about Kabru's Unnervingly Blue Eyes that people always notice.
Thinking also about how Kabru failed to leave an impression on Laios for literal years, even in the tight-knit world of adventurers' circles, so much so that Laios did not recognize him at all when he found him in the dungeon.
(...or the next two times he encountered him in the dungeon).
Thinking also about how Laios is canonically bad with details.
WHICH IS TO SAY, I'm currently imagining some idle conversation happening in the Touden party post-chimera-encounter in which it becomes evident that Laios straight up does not remember what color Kabru's eyes are.
(He remembers they're sharp, and bright, and very appealing when he smiles and winks, but are you sure they weren't like dark gray or something, Chilchuck?)
((Chilchuck is going to strangle Laios. They were definitely like, the most blue he's ever seen a human's eyes be! Pay attention, you idiot!))

Anyway do you think when Shuro and Namari quit the party, do you think that Chilchuck was secretly relieved that he'd been paid in advance and could just, go with Laios and Marcille?
Y'know, instead of having to consider betraying his principles and generating some flimsy excuse for why he would stay with them?
Or having to stick to his guns, and watch the two of them charge off into the dungeon alone, knowing they were definitely going to get themselves slaughtered?

Also thinking about the point when Kabru is like, "at first I thought we'd just been robbed which sucks and is also boring, but now it looks like the theft is actually something incidental to some developing drama involving some of the most fucked up people I'm aware of, so this is actually quite fun!" like. Bro.

Anyway I knew the Watsonian explanation for why Shuro left the party (rallying his rich boy forces to try to save the woman he's in love with because he thinks that'll work better), but now I also know the Doylist truth:
he couldn't stay in the party because he's a fucking snitch

Also some dungeon meshi things I've been like, vibes spoiled on if not exact details spoiled
So when the gang was sent off to go talk to the Wingéd Lion because he'll totally be able to help and then they immediately had a very bad encounter with a griffin (half wingéd half lion) I was like. Are you trying to foreshadow something at me rn?

Laios: We need to talk to him!
Yaad: ...have you not been listening?? We do not call him "the Mad Mage" for like, fun!

Oh, of course the other thing that haunts me about yesterday's dunmeshi episode is like.
To get Inutsumi to run through the door, Laios shook and threw The Bell. And I'm just sitting there like, I know you gotta use what you have in a desperate situation but. Are you even cognizant of the fact that you also just called Shuro for a ride??? Laios hello???

I bet Kabru hates when the only impression he leaves on someone is "that guy with the unnerving blue eyes".
I bet he thought he hated it the most until he encountered someone on whom he could, evidently, leave no impression at all

My thoughts on this week's dunmeshi episode:
Felt a little rushed
And very mood wiplash-y

Marcille: *watching Senshi farming the golems* hey you know that's illegal, right?
Marcille: *getting her forbidden magic ready to revive Falin* what are you guys, cops? Come help me.

Marcille, about the Golden Country: "If circumstances were different, I could stay here forever."
Laios: "Me too"
Me, despondent: you can't be talking like that, white babies

Severely underrated Kabru moment from episode 17:
Chilchuck: (on telling Shuro about the black magic) "He is clearly the worst person to tell!"
Kabru, off screen: "I know, right?"

Also, rewatching dunmeshi has let me notice some more things, one of which is this:
Before Kabru starts on his streak of repeated monster TPKs, we do get to see successfully kill one monster - a zombie.
Y'know. The most human-like monster possible

Kabru, never sorry to have been eavesdropping: "Sorry to eavesdrop, but-"

I didn't think I was going to be able to watch the dunmeshi today but I did!
And honestly I think because like, I saw spoilers about resurrecting Falin and chimera Falin, those moments were good but they didn't catch me off guard.
And as a result, the thesis presented in today's episode feels like the most batshit revelation I've experienced watching this show

Anyway my apologies to Shuro Dungeonmeshi for calling him a snitch.
